Presentation Description:
As our winters get wetter and our summers get hotter, providing shade and dry places to recreate becomes more important. The pandemic has made the importance of gathering in fresh air all too clear. Highlighting the aesthetics, versatility and customization of overhead structures, this talk focuses on StruXure features and components. From a technical point of view, Kathryn will walk us through the basic parts of beams, connectors, gutters, and louvers and the add ons such as lighting, fans, corbels, cornice trim, motor controls, and sensors. With her extensive knowledge of installations she will help us understand construction detailing such as footer embedment and connections to existing structures. Kathryn can also answer questions about sustainability, materials sources, protective coatings, etc.
Speaker Bio:
My husband Brian and I opened McKenzie Outdoor Living in 2020. A new season of life upon us as empty nesters, combining talents and passions with a renewed discovery of the value of home brought on by the pandemic, McKenzie Outdoor Living was born. As a Navy vet and farm kid from Creswell, Brian is no stranger to physical work. He has spent most of his career in industrial sales. My resume includes twenty years of childcare and administrative work. Together, we have a wonderful mixture of skills and vision. I get the vision and the feelings to capture, he gets the spatial and mechanical build.
With help from our family friend and business partner in Florida, we took the opportunity to start McKenzie Outdoor Living at a time when as a society, we found ourselves in a reality often associated with science-fiction. Absolutely every facet of our modern life affected, we looked up from our sourdough bread obsession, dusted the flour off our everyday sweatpants, and got to work building an outdoor living contractor business.
Outside of work, we share six kids, a few pets, a desire to travel everywhere, and a love of sports. I love to cook grand holiday meals for our big family, can often be found reading two books at a time, and my biggest vice is sunbathing at the beach. I love dad jokes and queso dip, hiking and visiting museums.
