How to become a Landscape Architect

First assess if the career is one that seems exciting and interesting. Talk to people, other students, visit college campuses, reach out to working landscape architects (they’re more than happy to speak with you!), participate in Career Expos, and visit the ASLA national website for videos and information.

The majority of practicing landscape architects have a college degree from an accredited program of study. The University of Oregon’s School of Architecture and Environment is the only accredited Landscape Architecture program in the state. Other schools in Oregon provide classes but not a degree program. Once a degree has been earned, people work and train under a licensed landscape architect for a number of years prior to taking the licensing exam (LARE) to become a licensed landscape architect.
