Cascadia Grey To Green Conference & Training

  • Portland state university (map)

In the Cascadia Bioregion, green roofs play a crucial role in sustainable urban development. They manage stormwater, reducing runoff and mitigating flooding risks. By combating the urban heat island effect, they provide natural cooling, improving urban comfort and reducing energy consumption. Green roofs support biodiversity, create habitats for wildlife, and enhance air quality by capturing pollutants. They also improve building energy efficiency, offering insulation and reducing heating and cooling needs.

In 2019, Portland Oregon became one of a handful of cities in North America to adopt a mandatory green roof requirement for new buildings. At the time, it was the strongest green roof requirement in the USA, and there was considerable local support for it. However, at this very moment, the Portland City Council is considering suspending the requirement that was adopted just four years ago. Join us at this conference as we discuss the need for green roofs and retaining this green roof requirement.

The Cascadia Grey to Green Conference will have a strong focus on providing content tailored for designers, contractors, installers, maintenance professionals, and policy makers. This content includes practical information about the implementation and maintenance of green infrastructure systems. There will also be introductory programming to attract new and aspiring industry professionals.

The event spans over two days, with training, a plenary session, tours, technical presentations, panel discussions and a central trade show.
