Riverbend Park Design Charrette // Bend, July 23-24

Riverbend Park Design Charrette

The High Desert Section of ASLA Oregon and Bend Park & Recreation District (BPRD) are partnering to lead a design charrette visioning the future of Riverbend Park.

River recreation in Bend city limits became legal 15 years ago. Over the years river use has grown in popularity and a recent survey indicated improved river access as a top need among Bend residents. To address this BPRD is planning for recreational access and habitat restoration at parks along the Deschutes River. Riverbend Park was developed in 2009 as a main river access point. Today it is one of the busiest and most active parks in the district.

Are you experienced in designing accessible outdoor recreation? An expert in off-leash dog facilities? Knowledgeable in park planning? Great with graphics?

ASLA Oregon and BPRD invite you to join our design team for a two-day charrette July 23-24, 2021 in Bend, Oregon. Our two days will feature a presentation from Pat Addabbo of Oregon Adaptive Sports on Removing Barriers to River Access through Accessible Design (1.0 HSW PDH) and include a site assessment + full-day design charrette (2.5 pro bono service PDH). The charrette will focus specifically on generating ideas to improve river access for humans and dogs in the park. It will take place at the BPRD District Office located in Riverbend Park.

The charrette provides a great opportunity for Oregon’s landscape architecture community to gather, learn from each other, and lend our expertise and abilities to envision the future of this significant park in Bend.

We are seeking participants with a diversity of knowledge, skills, and abilities in all stages of their careers. Students, emerging professionals, mid-career, and experienced professionals are all encouraged to apply.
